Grades K-4
Travel to ancient Olympia and learn the importance of honesty.
It all started with an innocent sort of falsehood — a playful jest. Then came an ill-considered bit of flattery, followed by two mean-spirited lies. These four falsehoods send a goat named Plato on an ill-fated journey to compete in the great goat race at Olympia.
By the time the disillusioned Plato returns home, he has learned the importance of honesty and has resolved never to tell a lie.
Plato’s story takes place in the Peloponnese region of Greece, scene of rustic landscapes and ancient ruins. Illustrator Itoko Maeno recreates these settings in vibrant watercolor illustrations.
The Plato’s Journey teaching guide offers dozens of classroom activities. Your students will prepare a Greek country salad, create their own mosaics, play the archaeology game, and recite their alpha, beta, gammas. Plato’s Journey will help you
• Explore different kinds of falsehoods
• Promote honesty
• Present information about the history and culture of Greece and about the Olympic Games
This storybook is available at amazon.com in Kindle reading format
