The MarshMedia Research Initiative: helping teachers assess character education in the classroom *

*Research results now in! View published report.

Responding to schools' acute needs to validate educational practices and materials, MarshMedia has engaged the Teel Institute of Kansas City to conduct a research-based evaluation of our Character Education series.

Content Analysis and Formulation of Evaluation Guides

A professional examination of the character messages has provided significant new tools for teachers’ use. Based on the discussion and testing format from the research model, Evaluation Guides provide an exciting new opportunity. In addition, Evaluation Guides help meet administrative requirements for assessment and validation.

Scientific Research

The research will examine how messages about character are received by young children when they engage with the Amazing Mallika storybook and video as well as participate in a teacher-led scripted discussion. Amazing Mallika was chosen for the pilot test as most representative of the 30-title series. Pre- and post-testing will be statistically analyzed and results compiled and studied.

“While researching the efficacy of these books in helping students develop new understanding is very important, the real value of this project may be in providing the teacher with an in-depth guide to help them pull out and reinforce the key concepts that they want students to learn.”
